A few months ago, we were cleaning out some nooks and crannies in our house and I stumbled upon one of my granny's recipe boxes. Through all of the things she lived through (and believe me, she lived through a lot) one constant with her was her love of cooking.
I almost hesitate calling it just cooking though. She was more of a amateur scientist that specialized in food and we (her family and many friends) were her test subjects. Some of her creations were amazing, others would challenge your taste buds to go where they should never go (I still remember her jalapeno and olive jello). No matter what it was, you could always count on a great story being born from every recipe.
Instead of leaving these in storage to collect dust and be lost in obscurity, I wanted to share these with the world. Some of these she wrote herself, others were ones she collected from friends, newspapers, magazines, and even post cards. You are seeing the recipes as I see them, complete, incomplete, and everything in between.
So now it's your turn to be the amateur scientist. I'll be posting more of these of the coming weeks until I finish all that were included in the little green recipe box. I'm looking forward to seeing your comments, photos, triumphs, and failures. Help me bring these back to life and create some great stories of your own.
